Manufacturing Pipeline assessment matches skills to occupations

If you’re still wondering if a job in manufacturing makes sense for you, you’re in luck. The U.S. Manufacturing Pipeline website provides a short career assessment that will give you a good idea if you’d be happy pursuing a manufacturing career and, if so, what jobs within manufacturing are best suited for you.

If you’ve been reading the blog, you already realize that manufacturing jobs are becoming in-demand and can come with a nice salary. But a job in manufacturing is not for everyone. Do you already enjoy working with tools, being analytical, or tinkering and taking things apart to see how they work? If so, then there’s a good chance that the assessment can match a manufacturing job to your preferences.

The good news is that the assessment is fairly painless and very short. How short? You can probably complete the 14 question survey in a couple minutes — and all of the questions are straightforward and about your interests.

Should the assessment determine that you’re suited to a job in manufacturing, the website also provides a rundown of educational programs for manufacturing located by city, state or zip code. There’s also a job board to give you an idea of what types of companies you can work for once you’ve gotten training. Not to spoil the surprise, but the list is long.

If you’re not sure if a four-year degree after high school is something that you’re interested in, take the assessment and see if a two-year degree in a hands-on field is something more suited to your tastes. You might find that you can make money, and do an active job that makes you happy at the same time.
